Spring, by sound
Spring, by sound.
Melting snow and ice, uncovering earth
That knew only three weeks of winter.
Birds. Chirping, singing their songs. Alive.
Wish I could ask, speak directly with them
Is this confusing for you too?
Spring, by sound.
But the air is murky
Sky, hazy with pollution.
The hum, yet again, louder.
Always getting louder.
I wish the cars would stop.
I wish the people would pause.
Why don’t we ever want to hibernate?
Would it be so bad to slow down
Be still, find our inner movements
Metabolize through winter
Everything we willfully ignore.
Spring, by sound.
Soon, by sight and smell.
But the air is murky.
Sky, hazy
And humans, oh the humans
Will they never stop?
I plead with the world to pause
Take just one break
It never does. It never will.
Not until
The day we must and not by choice.
Spring. Be still, my heart.
